Pic 7 - "Push"

Two young men were working at the abandoned building were she intended on sleeping that night. They didn't see her...she had been well hidden. She overheard they're conversation...
"Look, its almost 1 am and I know that we said we'd be finished by tomorrow, but right now, it just doesn't seem like that's gonna happen," one of them said.
"Well I can keep on here for another hour but then I am beatin' it the hell outta here," replied the other.
"Yeah, well I've gotta leave now, you know what Julie gets like...shit"
"Don't worry about it...I'll just fix that hole in the railing upstairs and I'll leave too, but don't forget to leave me the keys to lock up."
"I don't know why the hell he always locks this place up...anyone with half a mind to get in here could...no roof on half the place..." he forced a strained laugh.
"Well, you go and I'll leave in another hour"...She saw the one man slap the other's shoulder in a gesture of comradery and he moved toward the front door.

From the shadows, she saw the man watch his friend leave the driveway before he turned to pick up his tools. While he was busy, she crept to the upstairs and hid behind a wall. She knew exactly where to find the broken rail...He walked upstairs and headed to the opening in the rail. She saw the back of his head and the rain glistened on his red hair. Immediately she was thrust back into her childhood and saw his face...Mr.Roberts face...pallid and smirking.
She was only small...and his large body frightened her...Daddy would be so angry...Mother should not be with him..not in her bedroom, not with the lights off...Daddy will catch you and he'll hurt you again...Mother, please stop...please?

Rage burned in her stomach and she lunged out from behind the wall...She pushed him and Red was launched backward from the balcony. Clawing desperately at the air between the two of them he made no sound as he disappeared into the darkness beneath. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion, Red's flight, her arms returning to her sides...even her breath was slow and controlled...
