She was placed into foster care and slipped through the cracks of the system that otherwise might have helped her. She was out on her own by the time she was 17 and she never relied on anyone other than herself since that time. She was traded from home to home for those few years. It was there that her fantasies first came to light.
She found the information she needed in the timewarn hospital records room. Mother was being kept in a higher security older wing of the hospital on the basement level, cell 2, floor B2. As she pretended to have pressing business of her own, she watched an intern who worked the night shift that seemed to go to various wings throughout the hospital without much ado. She seemed to go rather unnoticed by other workers at the hospital and so it was determined that 'Shadow' would be the most likely subject to bring about success.
At around 3 am, Shadow boarded the city bus that would take her home for the last time. It was a 20 minute ride to Shadow's stop where they both departed the otherwise empty bus. She would have been more careful about being seen with Shadow, but she knew that precision was going to have to be sacrificed for the sake of timeliness.
Shadow walked along the pavement, her shoes scuffing as she strolled casually toward her apartment. She waited at one corner of the street to see what direction Shadow would take through those familiar alleys, taking care not to lose sight of her target. The night was humid and Shadow wore only her nurses uniform and hat home from the hospital, she carried only a small shoulder bag with her. At last, Shadow turned another corner and headed for a short flight of stairs that appeared to lead directly to her flat.
